Better late than never

This is my candida recovery site where I will document my recovery from what I feel and know is candida.

I am a little late in creating this blog as I have been on the diet for a couple of weeks now, however, I did poison myself last Sunday (7 days ago) with coconut flour.

Coconut flour is a flour substitute that you are supposed to be able to have on the candida diet, and perhaps you might be able to. I on the other hand now know that this is definitely not a food I can eat.

I was around day 10 when on the guise that this food was ok I decided to relieve the boredom of what had been very strict and sort of boring diet, that's just the reality I'm afraid. I sliced some chicken then coated first in egg and then the coconut flour. I then shallow fried to make a sort of chicken dipper.

I wouldn't mind so much if they tasted amazing, but the fact was they were a very poor imitation of the real thing with just a stodgy flour taste to them. Needless to say on came the symptoms, brain fog, lethargy and an out of sorts feeling.

I'm unsure of how far this set me back but I'd be tempted to say like others do that any, no matter how tiny amount of sugar it is, sets you back to day 1. And that's how I feel now.

This is probably why people find it so hard to rid themselves of candida. You have to be ultra vigilant, 100% strict and cannot, I repeat cannot, even have a raison or you're back to square one.

Pau D'arco

So today I downloaded a book about candida recovery called 'The Candida Cure' it's written by Ann Boroch who funnily enough is based in Los Angeles (where I am!) and has some good information about candida, although not stuff I haven't heard before.

One nugget of new info I gleamed from it was of a herb called pau d'arco. This was listed as a yeast buster along with some others. I read the book in a couple of hours and this must of stayed with me as when I was in the Vitamin Shoppe grabbing my probiotics and perusing the teas, this tea jumped out at me.

Now I have since read that the active ingredients aren't water soluble and it's best in pill form, but I feel its a good addition to my efforts whatever the validity of this water soluble claim is.

The Candida Recovery by Ann Boroch

I was inspired to buy this book after reading the snippet through Amazon. I liked the introduction and in turns out this is the best part. The author knows what she is talking about but it isn't anything new and she is slightly more relaxed on the diet than I am personally happy with, and this is perhaps why she says recovery time is 90 days.

From what I've read and what I plan on doing is 30-40 days. This might be a little optimistic, but if I feel that this isn't long enough I'll just carry on for longer. I guess we'll find out.

Onwards

So that's a quick post about today and will update more as I go on. I plan on posting diet, supplements etc and having that as a quick navigation soon.
